PARIS 1959 Oct. 15 & 17, 2009 - 7:30PM
Paris 1959 was presented at The Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts. This production presented the audience with the culture and sounds of the musical forms of
opera and jazz from that era. Puccini's Il Tabarro was updated from 1918 to include a visually cohesive and familiar look as well as social
pertinent commentary. Michele was portrayed by bass-baritone Timothy Lafontaine, Giorgetta by soprano Eleni
Calenos and Luigi by tenor David Gagnon. Tami Swartz directed and the Metropolitan
Opera's own Steven Crawford music directed and was the orchestra at the piano. Additional
features included internationally acclaimed jazz saxophonist (and Central PA's own) Tim Warfield in
his acting debut. The second half of the evening featured Tim Warfield and the Jimmy Wood Trio with jazz music that was popular and composed during that period.
