The Harrisburg Opera Association will celebrate the music of Giuseppe Verdi with “A Verdi Gala” – an operatic concert consisting of selections (aria, duets, ensembles, etc.) from his many wonderful operas. Giuseppe Verdi is considered one of the most prolific composers of Italian opera. His stature as one of the 2 or 3 greatest opera composers is unchallengeable. The essential composing style of Verdi – direct, noble and intense – remained constant throughout his career as characteristics of his operas are easily recognized by the avid listener. A Verdi Gala will bring to the Whitaker stage some of the favorites from his operas including excerpts from La Traviata, Rigoletto, Il Trovatore, Aida, among others. Narration from a distinguished orator will provide background and transition throughout the concert that will be performed by professional vocalists from the region.

Join us for an evening of opera as theater as we feature arias and scenes from La Boheme, Tosca, Madama Butterfly and Turandot as we celebrate Giacomo Puccini's 150th Birthday. In keeping with the turn of the last century's singing traditions, all singers will be stretching themselves singing repertoire not normally heard in their vocal categories. It promises to be an exciting evening!
